The best online photo book services of 2021

id=”article-body” class=”row” section=”article-body”>

My mom has a cabinet full of photo albums curated from years of vacations, birthday parties and family events. While the days of dropping off film canisters at a 24-hour photo counter and carefully arranging the prints in a physical photo album may be in the past thanks to the digital era, I find there’s still no replacement for actually holding those family photos in a photography book on my lap.

A number of reputable options from photo book services are available online to help you build a photo book project that can be mailed right to your door. The CDC and the WHO say it’s , but if you’re nervous about getting a printed book, you can also just save your project and order your photo album later.

We tested a few of the best photo books services to see how easy they are to work with, though we haven’t actually gotten any books made yet, so we can’t compare the quality of the final products.  Here are the best photo book services to check out online.

Shutterfly/Screenshot by Shelby Brown/CNET

Shutterfly is one of the better known digital photo book service options. The site can help you assemble a photo book with over a dozen occasion templates and book sizes, or with tutorials and ideas if you want to start entirely from scratch. You can also choose Shutterfly’s Simple Path, which uses the site’s software to instantly lay out your photos — you need only rearrange them if you like, and decorate and add captions with this editing tool. Basically, you’ll have a personalized photo coffee table book in no time.

You can add print quality photography from your computer, or photos already uploaded to Shutterfly, Facebook or Instagram. You can also use stock photos from Shutterfly’s Art Library. Any photo you upload has to be in JPEG format. The website doesn’t take long to learn to navigate, even if you aren’t very digitally savvy. If you need a bit of inspiration, you can click Idea Pages for some premade templates.

How much it costs: Without the sales tax, an 8- by 11-inch 20-page hardcover photo book would cost about $40 before shipping and tax. , so you should be on the lookout for promo codes to apply to your personalized photo book purchase to save some money. If you add or delete something from your project, Shutterfly will tell you that the price of your project has changed.

Mixbook/Screenshot by Shelby Brown/CNET

minimalist layout makes it very easy to use. The site has dozens of fun photo book themes — family, seasonal, wedding, travel, baby — and more specific designs in each category, perfect for a photo gift. There’s also the option to put a book together from scratch.

Mixbook lets you upload print-quality photos from your computer, phone, Facebook, Instagram or Smugmug or use the photos you’ve already uploaded to the site.

I used Mixbook to organize my wedding photos a few years after the fact. It was easy to add and edit photos, text, extra pages and embellishments to the template I chose. You can swap themes at any time, but from what I can tell, you have to change the pages manually, though the photos will transfer over.

You can be as creative as you want to be and veer away from the template as you like — or stick with it. As you build your book, you can click Preview to see how the final product will look along the way. When you’re satisfied with your book, click Order to finalize the photo book size, page and cover finish.

How much it costs: Mixbook offers a lot of customization options that can affect your final price. Photo books can be ordered in landscape, portrait or square shape in 6- by 6-inch, 8.5- by 8.5-inch, 10- by 10-inch and 12- by 12-inch sizes. Mixbook offers four different page finishes and five different cover option styles. The combination you choose, and any extra pages, will determine your price.

Choosing the regular semigloss page finish and a softcover can help keep . Designing a larger book with more bells and whistles like hardcover matte or leather with a dust jacket will raise the final price. For example, my 8.5- by 8.5-inch 39-page hardcover wedding photo book came to about $30 with a discount code, before tax and shipping.

Snapfish/Screenshot by Shelby Brown/CNET

makes uploading photos to make an album super easy by organizing all of your uploads into a file. From there, you can let Snapfish autofill your photo book or add your images manually. Snapfish had a similar photo editing user interface to Mixbook, but was more sensitive about image resolution. For example, on both sites if an uploaded image’s resolution is too low, it’s flagged with a little exclamation mark. Some of the photos that were OK for Mixbook didn’t pass Snapfish’s resolution requirements.

Snapfish had dozens of templates and themes like Summer Snapshots, Grad Nostalgia, Family Farmhouse, Storybook Love and Moments with Mom. If you picked a template to start with, you can still swap pages for other backgrounds or change the book theme entirely. Some of the embellishments with certain templates had drop-shadows for each photo that made them feel more like traditional scrapbook pieces.

How much it costs: When you’re finished with your project, click Review and Buy to place your order. For an 8- by 11-inch hardcover 20-page photobook, Snapfish charged $40. The site also offered to print nine 4- by 6-inch glossy prints from the album for 9 cents each.

Walmart/Screenshot by Shelby Brown/CNET

Get started on your photo book by making an account on . You can customize your photograph book’s size, from 5 by 7 inches all the way up to 12 by 12 inches, as well as the cover type, binding and terbaik sumatera how fast you want it delivered. Since I already had the photos available, I tested out Walmart’s All That Glitters wedding album template. You can swap templates at any time, but the photos you’ve placed won’t transfer, and you’ll need to put them back into the new layout.

Walmart lets you upload digital photography from your computer, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Dropbox and Google Photos, but the site will only hold onto the photos for one year. After dropping a photo in, click it to start the editing process if you want to make adjustments. However, Walmart provides fewer photo editing options — a black-and-white or a sepia filter, the ability to crop, zoom, tilt, brightness adjustment and red-eye elimination — compared to other websites.

It was easy to drag and drop photos or swap layout pages in the template. One of the downsides to Walmart’s photo books though was the lack of embellishments. The program lets you add text, but “stickers,” like those on other sites, would’ve taken the design process up a level.

How much it costs: Once you’re finished with your project, click Next to review your photo book in a storyboard format before you order. There’s also an option to preview the entire book page by page if you want a more detailed review before ordering. You’ll get an alert if you left any slots blank, so don’t panic. Walmart’s option is also the least expensive of the bunch: An 8- by 11-inch 20-page hardcover photo book cost about $19 before shipping and tax. The store offers free shipping on orders over $35.

Mailpix

If you’re not keen on making an account and getting a slew of emails from a company, might be the way to go. With this photo book company, you can make a photobook as a guest, no account needed.

Mailpix offers premium ultra layflat, layflat, hardcover book and softcover photo book styles, ranging from 8-by-8 inches to 11-by-14 inches in size. The site recommends designing the book on a computer and using JPEG files. You can pick out styles for almost every occasion — birth celebrations, Mother’s and Father’s day, holidays like Christmas, Halloween and Hanukkah, birthdays and pets.

Choose a layout and upload your photos. You can change the page layout at any time and the photos you’ve added to that page will adapt (unlike with Walmart’s service). One thing I didn’t like about Mailpix was the red line that appeared around the page indicating that a section might be cropped out during printing. This made me a bit nervous — especially with embellishment-heavy pages, and I found myself distracted while I tried to imagine who my page would turn out.

I experimented with a cute retro design that looked similar to something you might be able to recreate with real scrapbook materials. There was a nice diversity in page layouts, and the site warns you if a photo’s resolution is too low, so you can adjust. In addition, Mailpix updates your price total as you go along, so you’re not caught off-guard by the final price at checkout.

How much it costs: When you’re satisfied with your book, name it and choose how many copies you’d like to order. Select a cover style, add a photo if you’d like and check out. The prices for the book styles and amount of pages vary, like with the other sites — the fancier the book and more pages you add, the more expensive it gets. On Mailpix, every extra page cost $1.20.

An 8-by-8-inch softcover book with 22 pages came $37.40 before tax and shipping — ground shipping is $9, but Mailpix had a spring sale going on and two promo codes available as well, which will lower your price a bit.

Google Photos/Screenshot by Shelby Brown/CNET

Instead of uploading your photos into another app, you can create a photo book with less hassle with . In the Google Photos app, tap the For You tab (on my Pixel 3 phone, it’s at the bottom of the screen, but it also works on desktop) and then tap the Prints button. Tap Photo Books to get started with a hardcover 9- by 9-inch or a softcover 7- by 7-inch. Both books start at 20 pages and can go up to 100 pages.

Google will give you a few premade albums based on your photos, like Best of Winter 2019, or you can build your own photo book by choosing an album you already made. There’s also the option to start from scratch and manually add all the photos by tapping Make Photo Book at the bottom of the screen.

Google Photos is probably the most basic choice if you’re going to order a photo book. It offers a minimalist layout on white pages that you can add captions to. There aren’t embellishments like there are on Snapfish or Mixbook, but you can still make creative layouts with multiple photos. Hold down a page and drag it to rearrange or tap to edit. Google Photos still has editing options in its app for you to add filters before creating a book.

How much it costs: A hardcover 9- by 9-inch photo book costs $20 and 65 cents for each additional page. A softcover 7- by 7-inch photo book costs $10 and 35 cents for each additional page before shipping.

Blurb/Screenshot by Shelby Brown/CNET

Making a photo book with Blurb has a bit more steep of a learning curve than the rest of the services on this list. Blurb is aimed at the professional photographer wanting to showcase work and possibly sell it with a professional photo book. You can still use Blurb to make a photo book as a keepsake or a gift for a loved one, but you need to download the free Bookwright app extension to do it after making an account with the photo book service. You can also use programs like Adobe InDesign and Adobe Lightroom, but I would only recommend using these if you already pay for them.

To start your project after you’ve downloaded Bookwright, you can choose your book preferences (cover, size, page style). I used a from Blurb to get the hang of the program. At its bare bones, the program works like other photo-book creation sites. Import the photos you want, choose to auto-create the book or drag and drop the photos into the layouts you choose. You can also design your own layout and save it for future use. Clicking Manage Photos displays all your pages in a spread so you can rearrange as needed.

When you’re finished with the project, you can click Upload to send to Blurb. You can purchase physical copies of your photo book and/or get a digital version in PDF format ($5 extra). If you’re ordering multiple copies (10 to 20+), Blurb has up to 40% discounts. You can also upload editions to sell by clicking Sell Your Book instead of Order Your Book after uploading it.

How much it costs: Blurb, like the other services, lets you customize your project to best fit your price range. The site default recommends a 20-page 10- by 8-inch landscape photo book with an image-wrap hardcover and premium luster paper for $41. Each additional page costs 35 cents. My test album was the cheapest combination: A 20-page 7- by 7-inch softcover with standard paper for $15. Each additional page was 20 cents.

Ways to promote your website

A week back, I came across this article on effective ways to promote your website. It will be very useful for all website owners. Boosting your site’s popularity is an important part of marketing. It’s not easy to make your site more visible. Even if you have a good grasp of the strategies, you will likely struggle to get your site noticed. It’s essential that you use SEO techniques to draw thousands, if not millions, of people to your site. Numerous SEO tools and guides can help you boost the visibility of your website, as well as attract new customers in a matter of minutes. Guest posting is another effective way to promote and improve your website’s visibility. A lot of trustworthy and safe sites will bring you traffic. However, it’s not easy to find reliable platforms that are financially sound. This promotion method has significant benefits if you are open to new challenges and willing to go the extra mile. All is up to you! To make your platform stand out, use as many methods as you can!

Myhomeworkhelp Review

We are grateful.

#2Looks like the website has been designed with serious thinking behind the WordPress template-based platform.

The terms “legit”, trustworthy, genuine, etc. are all used interchangeably. These terms can be confusing. Different explanations seem to be offered by different people.

The only thing I can tell you about this company is that the owner is from India. This website has no reviews. It’s a scam website. They don’t claim to be based in any other country, nor even India. It is difficult to determine which term applies, once again.

#3 They are rude and will get to the bottom of you if they don’t like your crappy work. Myhomeworkhelp review is honest. They will provide you with poor quality work that is not in line with your instructions, is unfinished, and is late. I was able to prove to my bank and PayPal that they didn’t deserve my money. I am grateful for my money back. They threatened me with a lawsuit against me and that they would tell my university that they had cheated. But I didn’t fear because I hadn’t turned in their work. They threatened to sue me, but I know they won’t. I have emails that will condemn and prove they are thieves and liars. Avoid them. It is better to get zero than to get help from them. They are hateful, judging by the positive reviews they have received.

How to Get Yourself Noticed While Working Remotely

For many people, working from home has proven to be a blessing in disguise.

Despite the fact that many companies have resumed partial work from the office since the epidemic, remote working still dominates the worldwide working structure. Resuming offices is also problematic now that a new version of the Covid-19 pandemic, Omicron, is impacting people.

Working from home offers its own set of advantages and disadvantages. While working from home can be convenient, there are certain disadvantages to being physically separated from your coworkers and superiors. As a result, you face a problem in making yourself and your work apparent to your superiors. However, in order to achieve the best results, businesses must understand how to keep employees motivated when working remotely.

These methods for making yourself heard and your work visible in a remote office will be of great use to you.

Ways to Make It Easier for You to Be Heard and Seen

Boost internal communication

One key network that exists while working remotely is the internal communication network, which allows employees to communicate with one another.

Choose this option and feel free to discuss your work progress with your coworkers or employer. Inform them of your findings and timely tell them of your contribution in a professional manner. Sharing things at work enhances the bonds between coworkers and is also beneficial to your mental health.

If none of these options are available, you may be faced with the following:

  • It's possible that you'll continue to be perplexed by your work.
  • Lack of self-assurance.
  • Imposter syndrome could be a problem for you.
  • It will have an impact on your output.

Volunteer

When you work in an office, your physical presence alerts others to your presence.

As a result, you will be noticed even if you do not volunteer. In a virtual setting, though, you must initiate and make your voice heard. For example, if your supervisor has discussed a project that needs to be completed soon, you should take the initiative and volunteer to take on that project rather than letting them choose someone else.

Also, because you are not physically present in the meetings, your reactions to the situations are not noted. As a result, make sure you speak up at least once during the meeting.

Keep a positive attitude

When you work remotely, you are working alone.

As a result, you may experience low or underconfidence in your work and performance as a result of remote working. Be positive and reach out to your coworkers in a nice manner to avoid this. By inspiring your coworkers positively, you can help them feel better.

One method to relieve your coworkers' stress is to offer assistance. This also provides the impression that you can be counted on whenever they require assistance. It improves your relationship with your coworkers.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

Dress in a formal manner

When you go to work, you are dressed correctly in formals.

But who cares how I look when you're at home? Sure, it's incredibly tempting to spend the entire day in your pyjamas. It makes you feel too at ease, and you find yourself wearing your pyjamas more than before. This “who cares” attitude will gradually turn you into a slacker.

As a result, I urge that you dress up as if it were a regular weekday. Create a great office space in your apartment and work from home.

Activities Outside of the Classroom Are Important

Extracurricular activities are frequently used to keep the working environment upbeat and happy.

These activities are always something you look forward to. You should not only attend, but also take part in them. Even if these events are held online while working remotely, being a part of them keeps you engaged. You can also become a member of the organising team and take the initiative to attempt something new.

True, you'll have to labour a little outside the box, but it'll keep you in the good graces of your bosses.

Share Your Successes

Who doesn't like to brag? Why should I tell everyone else about my work when it is visible? Are you asking yourself these kinds of questions?

Let me clarify: Terbaik Sumatera bragging about your accomplishments is not the same as bragging about yourself. You are correct; your superiors are aware of your efforts, even if they do not appreciate them. You must share your accomplishments with your supervisors in order to make them think and speak well about you.

It's important because your employers might not give you the credit you deserve in front of upper management. So, speak up for it.

Always be on time for calls

You have excuses for not taking calls after work hours when you are away from work while going to the office. When you work from home, though, you do not have this freedom. You must be available for calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your availability draws attention to yourself in front of your boss.

Conclusion

For many, remote working may not be as simple as it appears.

It is burdened by dual obligations and concerns of trust. Because you can't maintain track of all of your staff at once, keeping things transparent becomes challenging. These minor concerns, however, can be handled if well organised and transparency is maintained.

It also aids in informing your superiors of your hard effort. Getting seen helps you stay out of trouble.

Google is giving you new tools to fight the climate crisis

id=”article-body” class=”row” section=”article-body” data-component=”trackCWV”>

Google says it wants to give you the information you need most about the climate crisis.

Google

As the climate crisis looms large in our cultural and political conversations, the world’s biggest companies are under pressure to step up and show us what they’re doing to deal with it. Tech companies are no exception and on Wednesday, announced updates to Search and Maps designed to help people reduce their environmental impact.

Among the key features introduced is a dedicated page in search results that’ll show up later this month when people search for answers to questions about climate change. Much like the climate science information hub , the page will provide people with in-depth information about climate change, including actions, causes, effects and definitions, from high-quality sources such as the United Nations.

Google isn’t alone in taking pains to point out that it takes the climate crisis seriously. Companies including , Samsung and Facebook say they’ve taken steps to ensure their supply chains and day-to-day operations don’t harm the environment. Data centers in particular require vast amounts of power, so it’s essential for companies to ensure they run on renewable energy sources.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai hosted a sustainability-focused event on Tuesday from outside one of Google’s campus buildings in California. The building’s roof is covered in 50,000 solar panels that make up a scalelike skin, which will eventually help things run on 90% carbon-free energy, according to the company.

Pichai described this as a “physical manifestation of our commitment to sustainability, one that goes back to our founding 23 years ago.”

The aim is for all of Google to run on carbon-free energy by 2030 — a goal Pichai referred to as one of the company’s “moonshots,” which it first announced last year. Right now, terbaik sumatera its data centers are running 67% carbon-free, up from 61% in 2019, the company says.

And while Google is shouldering some of the responsibility for improving its eco-credentials, it says it also wants consumers to make good, informed decisions and wants third-party companies to ensure they’re living up to the expectations of more sustainability-minded consumers.

Travel, transit and shopping

Starting immediately, Google searches related to travel will show people information about whether hotels have made meaningful commitments to sustainability, including whether they’ve received any environmental certifications. Some hotel groups have already started adding this information themselves, which will put pressure on others to do the same. Google will also show the associated carbon dioxide emissions for every flight you look up directly in search results, including seat-specific details (unfortunately it’s more eco-friendly to travel economy than business or first because the seats take up less space). Google will also put that information in context by saying whether it’s high or low.

Google brings green features to travelers

4:54

A shopping feature available from Wednesday in the US will suggest cost-effective and sustainable options when you search for energy-intensive appliances like furnaces, , water heaters, or . It’s an incentive to makers of those products to ensure they’re getting the attention of potential buyers by boosting the sustainable credentials of their goods.

Early next year, also in the US, Google will introduce tags to help buyers better identify electric and hybrid cars. When you look into a specific electric model, it’ll show compatible charging stations nearby and typical charging times, as part of its mission to make it easier for people to shop for eco-friendly vehicles and understand the benefits of driving electric.

Those who do still drive gas or diesel cars aren’t being left out. An immediate update to in the US (and coming to Europe next year) will see the company use AI to recommend the most fuel-efficient route for you to take as the default option. (If this route significantly adds to your ETA over the fastest route, you’ll be presented with options).

Google Maps will help you take the most eco-friendly route.

Google

The company expects that this feature, developed with insights from the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, has the potential to save more than 1 million tons of carbon emissions per year — the equivalent of removing over 200,000 cars from the road, according to Sarah-Jayne Williams, Google’s director of global product partnerships.

As for two-wheeled transport options, Google is bringing bike- and scooter-share information to an additional 300 cities starting immediately, and will be introducing Lite Navigation for cyclists in the coming months. This will allow people to see basic but important information about their route, including ETA, elevation and trip progress, without having to keep their screen on or enter turn-by-turn navigation.

Google’s chief sustainability officer, Kate Brandt, took the opportunity of the company introducing new transit options to also announce research it had been conducting in Israel (and will soon be expanding to Rio de Janeiro) to use AI to optimize traffic light efficiency across cities. The aim, she explained, is to reduce fuel wastage and wait time, which it’s successfully achieved by between 10% to 20% so far.

“Solving sustainability isn’t just something we’re doing at Google,” Brandt said. “We are building it into our products, so that the sustainable choice becomes an easier choice for everyone.”

Nigella's been mocked for her simple dishes – but she's not alone

BEM PTS Terbaik Sumatera Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia Salurkan Dana Kemanusiaan Semeru lewat ...

She’s mashed a tray of fish fingers, put banana skins in a curry and covered her bread dough in a leopard-print shower cap.

And viewers of Nigella Lawson’s new cookery show were left scratching their heads again this week when the TV chef spent a toe-curling 71 seconds instructing the nation how to butter a slice of toast.

But she’s far from the first celebrity chef to teach home cooks the most basic of culinary skills. From making tea to boiling eggs, here are the most blindingly obvious ones around. HANNAH FARMER gives her verdict and her advice on how to get them right.

TEATIME WITH A MODERN TWIST

It might seem straightforward, but the everyday practice of making a cuppa has been elevated to a fine art.

Heston Blumenthal is so passionate about tea-brewing that he’s come up with a gadget — the £169.95 Sage Tea Maker — to get it just right.

He says the perfect cup is not about the tea but the temperature you brew it at (somewhere between 70c and 100c).Too hot and you burn the leaves, making it ‘bitter’ and ‘astringent’.

He prefers loose leaf Earl Grey or Darjeeling to builder’s tea, with skimmed milk added second.

Mark Hix, meanwhile, former executive head chef of The Ivy London, insists on loose leaf English breakfast tea in a China pot, ‘which must be pre-warmed for three-and-a-half minutes’.It’s then served in a mug, tea first, with a splash of milk.

When it comes to bags, chefs rate a strong blend such as Yorkshire Tea, brewed for a few minutes so that when milk is added it is the colour of a Werther’s Original boiled sweet.

MY METHOD: Heston’s right; boiling water does add bitterness, so switch the kettle off around 20 seconds before it’s boiled.

Put a teabag in a mug — I rate M&S’s Luxury Gold blend — pour the water on top and let it brew for 90 seconds.Remove the bag and add a splash of milk.

SUPERSIZE YOUR SCRAMBLED EGGS

Delia Smith educated the nation on boiling eggs in her landmark book, How To Cook, in 1999.Twenty-one years later, her method is still deemed fail-safe by both amateurs and professionals.

Bring a pan of cold water to the boil, gently lower in an egg (at room temperature; not chilled) and allow it to simmer for a minute.Take the pan off the heat, put the lid on and continue to cook the egg for six minutes if you like a runny yolk, seven if you like it firmer.

When it comes to scrambling and poaching, techniques differ wildly. Gordon Ramsay has a seven-step technique, taking the mixture on and off the heat repeatedly for three minutes to get the texture just right. He then adds seasoning and — controversially — a spoon of crème fraiche.

Jamie Oliver (pictured) once told the nation how to 'correctly' scramble an egg using nothing but butter, cooked until it's frothy

MasterChef’s John Torode also uses crème fraiche in his scrambled eggs, while Jamie Oliver advocates nothing but butter.Heston Blumenthal goes low and slow, stirring his eggs in a bowl suspended over boiling water for up to 20 minutes.

As for poaching, while some chefs (Gordon Ramsay, Theo Randall and Prue Leith) advise adding vinegar to the water to stop the egg from separating, others (including Jamie, Delia and Mary Berry) say this is unnecessary.Nigella cracks her eggs into a tea strainer (to get rid of the stringy bits). Mary uses a saucer. While Jamie wraps the raw egg in cling film.

MY METHOD: For runny boiled eggs, it’s got to be the Delia method: terbaik sumatera simmered for a minute on the heat and then six minutes off.I scramble my eggs with nothing but butter in a saucepan over a very low heat; it can take up to ten minutes.

For poaching, vinegar makes no difference. Use fresh (not supermarket) eggs, swirl the water and simmer for three minutes exactly.

IT’S TIME FOR RICE, RICE BABY

Rice might not sound like it requires a recipe — surely all you have to do is read the back of the packet?— but it’s notoriously easy to overcook.

Jamie Oliver’s ‘foolproof, hassle-free’ method is the most complicated. He starts by boiling the rice for five minutes, draining it, then steaming it in a foil-covered colander suspended over a pan containing 2.5cm of water, for 8-10 minutes.

In contrast, Rick Stein opts for the simpler ‘absorption’ method: just 350ml of water, cooked for 10-12 minutes with the lid on until all the fluid has been absorbed.

According to Great British Chefs, an association of the country’s top culinary experts, the precise ratio is 1:1.5 rice to water.Put the grains in a pan of water, bring it to the boil and then cover and reduce to a simmer — it’ll take 12-15 minutes for the water to be absorbed.

MY METHOD: The absorption method is by far the best, producing soft, fluffy rice.

I measure out 75g per person, rinse the rice and then put it in a pan of water, containing 150ml per portion (so a 1:2 ratio).Bring to the boil, turn the heat down and simmer with a lid on for ten minutes. Fluff it with a fork and serve immediately.

SUPERCHARGE YOUR YOUR SPUDS

If you thought mashed potato was straightforward, think again. MasterChef’s Marcus Wareing tackles the nation’s favourite side dish in his book Marcus Everyday.

He starts by peeling and chopping the potatoes, before boiling them in salted water. When the potatoes are cooked, but not falling apart, he drains them and leaves them for five minutes. Then he puts them back in the pan, off the heat, and adds the butter before mashing.

Gordon Ramsay takes a different approach, heating a pan of butter, milk and double cream and then pouring the liquid over the potatoes once mashed.

When it comes to baked potatoes, Delia knows best: rub them with salt and olive oil and bake in the oven for two hours.

Antony Worrall Thompson pricks his with a fork and gives them just an hour, while Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall bakes his potatoes not once but twice, the second time loaded with cheese.

As for roasties, all chefs boil their potatoes first — around eight-ten minutes until tender.Jamie Oliver roughs his up in a colander and adds goose fat and garlic; Raymond Blanc, Rick Stein and Tom Kerridge use vegetable oil and sea salt — and Nigella adds semolina for crispness.

MY METHOD: Mash is best made with nothing but butter and seasoning, and I like to add a splash of potato water for an ultra-smooth consistency.

Baked potatoes are better the longer you leave them; rub them in oil and salt, prick with a fork and bake for two hours.

When it comes to roasties, I boil mine first, sprinkle over a handful of plain flour, and then put them into a tray of hot vegetable oil with salt, garlic and rosemary.

THE SECRET TO SPAGHETTI

He may not be Italian, but Gordon Ramsay swears he has the recipe for ‘perfect pasta’.

His video tutorial for cooking angel pasta (like a thin spaghetti) has been watched more than seven million times.

First, you need a large pan of water, to which you add plenty of salt and olive oil — ‘that stops the pasta from sticking together’ — before bringing it to a rolling boil.Swirl a handful of dried pasta into the water using tongs and cook for three to four minutes.

Other chefs — such as Italian TV cook Gino D’Acampo and Jamie Oliver — shun Gordon’s excessive use of oil.

Nigella agrees; in her 2012 book Nigellissima she says: ‘If you have enough water, then oil should not be necessary.’

To check if it’s sufficiently cooked, she advises tasting it: ‘The pasta should still be firm, though not hard or chalky in the centre.’

Jamie puts a lid on his spaghetti as it cooks to keep the water boiling and always conserves a cup of cooking water to pour over it once drained: ‘A few swigs of that starchy water will really help to loosen the pasta up,’ he explains.

MY METHOD: A few drops of olive oil (not a Gordon-esque glug) in the pan with the pasta will stop the strands from sticking together. All it needs is five to six minutes; the taste test is the best way to check if it’s cooked to your liking.

The trick is to eat it immediately — leave it for longer than five minutes and it’ll go claggy.

SAY HELLO TO HEINZ

Forget tipping a tin of Heinz baked beans on to a slice of toast…several top chefs have had a go at turning the ultimate comfort food into a gourmet dish.

Jamie Oliver’s recipe, from his book Comfort Food, requires cannellini beans and tinned tomatoes, heated in a pan and served on thickly-sliced sourdough.

He’s been serving up beans for years: his London restaurant made headlines in 2004 when it started selling posh beans on toast (made from Heinz beans with cherry tomatoes, spices, rocket and cheese) for £7 a portion — a 2,000 per cent mark-up on a 30p tin.

Gordon Ramsay makes baked beans for his family every Sunday. His bean of choice is the haricot, cooked with passata, Worcestershire sauce, onion, sugar and sherry — but the end result looks identical to what comes out of a tin.

Tom Kerridge also uses haricot beans, served on toasted soda bread, as does Mary Berry, who adds golden syrup, black treacle and muscovado sugar to her ‘Boston baked beans’ dish.

MY METHOD: Plain old beans from a tin will do but, if you’re determined to make your own, cannellini beans are best as they soak up all the flavours from that tomato sauce.

When it comes to toast, forget fancy sourdough or soda; thick-cut white is by far the most delicious.
